FAQs

Answers to Your BellaFill Questions

“What is BellaFill?”
BellaFill is a mixture of microsphere enhanced collagen and lidocaine for comfort. Unlike temporary wrinkle correction treatments, BellaFill is an injectable wrinkle filler which provides longer lasting results up to 8 to 10 years.

“How does BellaFill correct the appearance of wrinkles?”
The collagen in BellaFill filler works immediately to reduce the appearance of hard lines and wrinkles, then the microspheres create a support system for long lasting, natural looking wrinkle correction. There is no “puffy face” look like some of the other temporary fillers create because those temporary fillers tend to draw water to the area filled.

What makes BellaFill different from temporary HA dermal fillers?
Temporary injectable wrinkle fillers are made up of different kinds of natural or synthetic materials that break down and are absorbed by your body. Typically they last from 3 months up to a year. The wrinkle correction is only temporary as a result and you may need to pay for repeat injections several months after the initial treatment to maintain your wrinkle correction.

BellaFill has unique microspheres so it works differently—the microspheres are not absorbed by your body and provide a support structure for long lasting, natural looking correction.

“Is BellaFill safe?”
Yes. BellaFill was approved by the U.S. FDA in October 2006. BellaFill was as safe as the control temporary filler in clinical tests. Tens of thousands of patients have been safely treated with BellaFill since its launch in 2007

“What is BellaFill made of?”
BellaFill consists of microsphere enhanced collagen with lidocaine for your comfort.

“What are microspheres?”
BellaFill’s microspheres are made of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA); PMMA is one of the most widely used materials in medicine since 1949. These microspheres remain intact at the injection site and work to provide a support matrix to keep your wrinkles from returning.

“Does an BellaFill treatment take a long time?”
Dr. Rajani injection of BellaFill typically only last 15-30 minutes. You can return to your normal daily routine right away, and it’s easy to fit a treatment in on your lunch hour. Dr. Rajani uses a micro-cannula technique while injecting so bruising is very unlikely.

“Are BellaFill treatments something anyone can have?”
No. Not everyone are considered to be good candidates for BellaFill. This is why we encourage you to come in for FREE consult with Dr. Rajani at your convenience.

“Are there any other treatment concerns with BellaFill?”
Yes. If you have any skin outbreaks (e.g., cysts, pimples, rashes, hives, infection) near the injection site, we recommend postpone your appointment until they have cleared up. If you are taking aspirin (NSAIDs) or anti-inflammatory drugs or have any medical condition that affects your blood, you may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection sites.

It’s important that you share your medical information with your Dr. Rajani. Together, you can make an informed decision as to whether BellaFill is right type of facial enhancement procedure for you.

“Are there any further precautions with BellaFill?”

Yes, you should be aware:
BellaFill contains microspheres that help provide the support for wrinkle correction. These microspheres are not absorbed and last up to 8 to 10 years.

The safety of BellaFill in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and individuals under 18, has not been established. There is always a risk of infection with any injection. Discuss the symptoms of infection with Dr. Rajani so you know what to expect.

“Are there any possible side effects with BellaFill?”
As with all injectable wrinkle fillers, you can expect a little bit of swelling and redness at the treatment site. These side effects are don’t last long. Some times there is mild bruising that typically disappears in three to seven days but Dr. Rajani uses a blunt needle and bruising is very rare. Not very common side effects include rash and itching more than 48 hours after treatment, persistent swelling or redness, and increased sensitivity at some or all injection sites. Two other very rare potential side effects of all dermal fillers may be lumps and granulomas, both of which can be treated by Dr. Rajani.

“How many BellaFill Injections will it take to see results?”
Most people people see the desired result with one or two BellaFill treatments, depending on how deep their wrinkles and folds are on the face. You and Dr. Rajani can decide at your follow up appointment if you would like to schedule additional treatment to further enhance your results.

“What happens when the microspheres are injected?”
Dr. Anil Rajani injects BellaFill deep in the skin under the wrinkle and just above the skin’s fat or lipid layer. Several reports in scientific journals suggest that the collagen in the BellaFill filler is absorbed while the PMMA’s remain in the natural tissue of the skin to provide a support structure.

“Does the Bellafill injections hurt?”
To begin, BellaFill contains an anesthetic (lidocaine) for patient comfort. Secondly, Dr. Rajani numbs the treatment area with a topical anesthetic agent.

“What will I look like after my BellaFill treatment?”
Dr. Rajani injects the product in a manner where it can not be felt following treatment. The results are immediate as if you just had a facelift and you can go right back to your normal daily routine.
